Earlier this year, the popular fighting game MultiVersus was unfortunately canceled by WB Games, officially ceasing operations in May. However, two key figures from the MultiVersus team, Justin Fischer and Brock Feldman, are making a fresh start by announcing the formation of their new, completely self-funded studio: Airlock Games.
Justin Fischer, who served as MultiVersus’ production director, and Brock Feldman, its technical director, are the co-founders of Airlock Games. Both bring extensive experience from previous roles on titles like Disney Infinity and Medal of Honor. This time, they’re choosing a different path, deliberately moving away from the large-scale AAA development cycle to create smaller, more agile projects.
The pair expressed their excitement, stating, "We’ve dedicated years to high-profile AAA titles, but we yearned for the wonderful, unbridled creativity found in more focused games. This new venture allows us to concentrate on delivering novel experiences that genuinely excite us as both players and developers. We’re thrilled to have the liberty to take creative risks, explore new boundaries, and craft narratives that simply aren’t viable within typical AAA production frameworks."
Airlock Games isn’t wasting any time, as their debut title is already in development. Titled ‘What the Stars Forgot,’ it’s a unique sim management horror game that proudly embraces a classic 16-bit graphic style.
A crowdfunding campaign for ‘What the Stars Forgot’ is currently active on Kickstarter, aiming for a $25,000 funding goal. As of our last check, the project has garnered nearly $8,000 and will continue accepting pledges until November 27.
‘What the Stars Forgot’ is slated for an early access release on Steam later this year.
