Mumbai Police have taken into custody a former director of a leading real estate company, Lodha Developers, on Wednesday (September 17, 2025). He is accused of orchestrating a substantial fraud totalling ₹85 crore by leveraging his executive authority within the firm.
The individual in question, identified as Rajendra Lodha, served as a director for Lodha Developers Ltd from September 2013 until August 18, 2025. According to an official statement, his resignation followed a review of his conduct by the company’s internal ethics committee.
The complaint against Lodha specifically alleges that he exploited his official role to deceive the company.
Details of his suspected involvement in the fraud surfaced during an ongoing investigation initiated at the NM Joshi Marg police station, as confirmed by an officer.
Operatives from the crime branch’s property cell took Lodha into custody from his residence in Worli, a senior officer disclosed.
Following his arrest, he appeared before a court, which subsequently ordered his police custody until September 23, the official added.
The First Information Report (FIR) outlines a series of fraudulent activities attributed to Lodha during his directorship, including engaging in fake land acquisitions, illicitly reselling company land back to Lodha Developers, and selling the company’s properties to other developers at significantly undervalued prices. These actions are believed to have resulted in an ₹85 crore loss for the company.
Further inquiries into the matter are currently in progress.
In response to these developments, Lodha Developers issued a statement affirming their commitment: “The company maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards any misconduct, irrespective of the seniority or position of the individual concerned.”
The statement further clarified: “At the company’s request, Mr. Rajendra Lodha resigned from all positions held within the organization on August 17, 2025. For the sake of transparency, we note that he is a distant relative [fourth-degree] of the company’s Managing Director and CEO.”
