In a dramatic turn of events, two homes in Edmonton, Canada, were consumed by flames on Monday night. The blaze, which investigators have determined was started by firecrackers, led to the arrest of three men who have since been charged with arson.
Edmonton Police reported that the incident occurred near 25th Avenue and 24th Street shortly after 8:30 pm. According to a press release issued on Tuesday, sparks from fireworks launched from a backyard ignited a row of townhomes, causing extensive damage.
Fortunately, emergency services, including the Edmonton Police and Fire Department, responded swiftly, and no injuries were reported.
Authorities have issued a stern warning to residents, especially those celebrating Diwali, about the dangers of setting off fireworks without proper authorization. “Setting off fireworks inside city limits without a permit is illegal — and very dangerous,” the police stated, emphasizing the importance of responsible celebration to prevent harm to oneself and others.
