This year marks a significant milestone for the Irani family as veteran actor Boman Irani and his son Kayoze Irani have both stepped into the director’s chair for the first time. Boman’s directorial venture, ‘The Mehta Boys,’ garnered considerable acclaim earlier this year, while Kayoze helmed ‘Sarzameen,’ featuring Ibrahim Ali Khan in the lead role. Adding to the unique nature of their achievement, both films were released directly on OTT platforms.
Kayoze, who is 37 years old, shared that this simultaneous directorial debut was entirely unplanned. He mentioned, “My father has always aspired to make a film and has been writing for years. It just so happened that we also shot our respective films around the same time.”
He further elaborated on the interesting coincidence: “I was filming in Manali while Dad was shooting in Mumbai. It’s quite remarkable that our directorial debuts occurred in the same year.” When asked about potential comparisons with his father, Kayoze expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m very happy about it. It’s a distinction, and I’m not aware of any other father-son duo achieving this.”
Looking ahead, Kayoze is gearing up for his second directorial project. He shared his ambitious outlook, saying, “I’m approaching it as my launchpad. My next film will be a comedy, and it’s currently in the writing process. If all goes well, we plan to begin shooting next year.”
