Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports commentator Mark Sanchez was arrested on Saturday after sustaining injuries in a stabbing incident in downtown Indianapolis. Police confirmed he was hospitalized in stable condition following the altercation.
Authorities stated that Sanchez was arrested at the hospital and faces misdemeanor charges including battery with injury, unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.
He remains hospitalized and has not yet been formally booked, with further details regarding the incident currently unavailable.
Earlier that day, in response to questions about Sanchez’s injuries, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department released a statement concerning a stabbing that took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday, involving two injured men.
The police statement noted that one individual suffered lacerations, while the other appeared to have stab wounds.
Detectives have indicated that they believe the incident was isolated, occurring between the two men involved, and was not a random act of violence. They also mentioned that the men were not Indianapolis residents and that the entire altercation was captured on video.
Neither representatives for Mark Sanchez nor Fox Sports have yet commented on his arrest.
Sanchez, 38, began his NFL career in 2009 as a quarterback for the New York Jets, playing four seasons over five years. His final year with the team was spent on the sidelines due to injury.
He subsequently played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Redskins, completing a ten-season NFL career before retiring in 2019 to pursue a career as a football analyst.
It is believed Sanchez was in Indianapolis to fulfill his analyst duties for the network, scheduled to cover the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts game on Sunday afternoon.
He was slated to broadcast Sunday’s game alongside fellow Fox Sports sportscaster Chris Myers.
