Escape from Duckov, a delightful new top-down PvE shooter, is taking Steam by storm! This duck-themed parody of Escape from Tarkov only launched on October 16th but has already flown high on the charts, selling over 500,000 copies.
Currently, it’s the No. 4 best-selling game globally on Steam and ranks No. 6 for peak concurrent players, having attracted over 180,000 simultaneous players on October 20th alone.
The developers, Team Soda, shared their excitement in a recent post, stating it was an “exciting weekend for all ducks,” and that the studio is “quacking with joy and flapping our wings.” They also promised to “keep working hard to make sure every update lives up to your expectations!”
Gaming analyst Daniel Ahmad highlighted the impressive feat: this incredibly successful game was created by a small team of just five people. It’s published by bilibili, a Chinese powerhouse known for titles like Magicraft, Core Keeper, and Warm Snow.
However, the launch hasn’t been entirely without a hitch. Team Soda acknowledged a cloud save issue affecting Mac users, which could lead to lost game progress. They’ve apologized for the “operational error” and provided solutions for affected players.
If you haven’t lost your Mac save data yet:
- Locate your local save file folder: ~/Library/Application Support/TeamSoda/Duckov/
- Copy these save files and back them up to a secure location (such as your Desktop or a cloud service).
- Launch the game on Steam and wait for the cloud sync process to finish.
- Once sync is complete, move your backed-up save files back into the original folder.
For Mac players who have already experienced save loss:
The team expressed sincere regret for any frustration caused. Players can request a refund directly through the Steam platform. When submitting your request, be sure to include the note: ‘Save file loss due to cloud save issue’ and a screenshot of their official announcement.
Should Steam decline a refund, Team Soda advises affected players to email them a screenshot of their SteamID, Mac playtime, and proof of purchase.
Escape from Duckov is currently priced at $15.83 USD, but be aware that its price will increase by 12% to $18 USD starting October 30th.
