Lucasfilm has officially unveiled the highly anticipated debut trailer for “The Mandalorian and Grogu” movie, sparking excitement among Star Wars fans. The trailer offers a thrilling first look at several key elements, including a mysterious new character portrayed by the legendary Sigourney Weaver, the live-action introduction of the fan-favorite Lasat warrior, Zeb, and the surprising return of Din Djarin’s iconic ship, the Razor Crest.
The cinematic preview kicks off with the familiar duo, Din Djarin (once again brought to life by Pedro Pascal) and Grogu (affectionately known as Baby Yoda), landing the Razor Crest on a picturesque beach. This immediately raises questions for long-time viewers, as the original Razor Crest was famously destroyed by a single blast from Moff Gideon’s light cruiser during a fierce battle on the planet Tython. How did it return? Perhaps Mando invested in a top-tier galactic insurance policy for his beloved vessel!
Our heroes are then seen cautiously approaching what appears to be an Imperial base. The pint-sized Grogu, showcasing his knack for infiltration, makes his way inside, seemingly accompanied by the equally tiny Anzellan droidsmith, Babu Frik, who originally debuted in “The Rise of Skywalker.” A charming scene follows where Mando and Grogu share a moment with Sigourney Weaver’s character. Naturally, the perpetually hungry Grogu attempts to use the Force to snag some snacks, but it seems even the Force is no match for Weaver’s watchful eye.
The trailer swiftly transitions into a montage of exhilarating action. Mando proves his combat prowess by expertly dispatching an opponent in a thrilling fight sequence. We catch glimpses of fascinating monsters rendered in the classic Star Wars practical effects style, an intense spaceship dogfight, Grogu enjoying a swim, and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of Zeb making his full live-action appearance.
For those unfamiliar, Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios is the powerful Lasat honor guard from “Star Wars Rebels,” known for his imposing physique and his dedication to the Rebellion against the Empire. He previously made a brief, but memorable, live-action cameo in “The Mandalorian” series. Now, we get to see him in full force, taking down stormtroopers – or “bucket heads” as he famously calls them.
Further scenes from the trailer hint at Grogu potentially joining forces with more members of Babu Frik’s Anzellan species. There’s also a gladiatorial arena, seemingly overseen by a Hutt, where Mando engages in more thrilling robot combat and faces a truly terrifying monster. The climax shows Mando and Grogu dramatically escaping an AT-AT as it explodes and plummets into ruin.
The trailer concludes on a lighthearted note with Grogu using a green sludge to successfully target a monster’s eye. “Good shot, baby!” exclaims a delighted Babu Frik.
Set to debut in theaters on May 22, 2026, “The Mandalorian and Grogu” marks the first theatrical Star Wars film since the critically mixed “Rise of Skywalker” in 2019. Despite Lucasfilm announcing several new Star Wars projects over the years, this movie arrives a significant six and a half years after its predecessor. Fans can also look forward to “Star Wars: Starfighter,” starring Ryan Gosling, which is slated for release a year later in May 2027.
