Exciting news for fans of Westeros! HBO Max has officially confirmed the highly anticipated 2026 launch windows for two major ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off series: ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ and ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3.
Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, recently revealed in an interview that ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ is slated for a January 2026 premiere. This eagerly awaited adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ novella trilogy delves into events 90 years before the original ‘Game of Thrones’ saga, promising a fresh yet familiar return to Westeros.
George R. R. Martin himself has expressed immense enthusiasm for ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’. He previously shared his excitement, noting that he couldn’t wait for viewers to experience the story of Dunk and Egg on screen. An earlier visual glimpse, including an image and a brief teaser trailer released in mid-2024, has already given fans a taste of the upcoming series’ key characters and signature action.
Meanwhile, ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 is expected to arrive in early summer 2026, with June being a suggested launch month. The series, which has garnered significant attention, also recently faced public comments from George R.R. Martin regarding creative decisions in its second season.
Earlier this year, ‘House of the Dragon’ showrunner Ryan Condal addressed Martin’s publicly aired criticisms from 2024, labeling them ‘disappointing.’ Martin’s remarks, which highlighted concerns over plot elements involving Aegon and Helaena’s children and hinted at future ‘toxic changes,’ caused a stir among fans. Although the original blog post detailing these grievances was later removed, the author’s sentiments were widely noted by the fan community and HBO alike.
Despite these creative discussions surrounding ‘House of the Dragon,’ 2026 is shaping up to be a monumental year for the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe on television, with two significant spin-offs set to captivate audiences.
