Empowertrans, a prominent electrical engineering firm specializing in power transmission infrastructure across India, has proudly announced the successful commissioning of Odisha’s groundbreaking first digital Process Bus-based 2×20 MVA, 132/33 KV grid substation. Situated in Agalpur, Rampur, within the Balangir district, this state-of-the-art facility was developed for the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (OPTCL) and represents a monumental technological advancement—the first of its kind by any State Transmission Utility (STU) in India.
The significant launch event saw the presence of Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Energy, K.V. Singh Deo, who formally inaugurated the new substation.
Asit Pradhan, Managing Director of Empowertrans, commented on the achievement, stating, “The Agalpur substation truly represents a paradigm shift in how power systems are designed, monitored, and controlled. This milestone underscores our unwavering commitment to pioneering advanced technologies and delivering sustainable, future-ready solutions.”
Diverging sharply from conventional substations, the Agalpur facility incorporates an innovative Process Bus architecture. This sophisticated system seamlessly integrates digital sensors positioned near equipment, robust fiber optic communication networks, and intelligent automation. The result is unparalleled real-time data analysis, significantly faster fault detection and control, and dramatically enhanced operational efficiency. Moreover, the inherent digital design contributes to a substantial reduction in the carbon footprint, aligning perfectly with global sustainability imperatives.
Empowertrans boasts an impressive track record in Extra High Voltage (EHV) electrical engineering, consistently delivering pioneering solutions nationwide. Their past achievements include establishing Odisha’s first QUAD Moose 400 KV Double Circuit Transmission Line for the GMR Group at Kamalanga, and introducing Monopole Tower-based Transmission Lines utilizing High Tension Low Sag (HTLS) conductors for IPCL in West Bengal and BALCO in Chhattisgarh.
The company further solidified its reputation by constructing India’s first cyclone-resistant transmission line in Puri’s Wind Zone-6 for Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL), reinforcing its position as a leader in resilient and advanced power infrastructure.
As the power industry continues its dynamic evolution, driven by the rise of renewable energy and digital transformation, Empowertrans remains a pivotal player. The company is dedicated to executing high-quality, on-schedule projects that consistently elevate the benchmarks of transmission engineering.
