Popular Twitch streamer Emiru, whose real name is Emily Schunk, experienced a distressing assault on stage during a meet-and-greet at TwitchCon 2025 on Friday, October 17. The incident, captured in a video that quickly spread across social media, showed an individual approaching Emiru mid-event and attempting to kiss her neck. Security personnel intervened swiftly, removing the individual, but the encounter left Emiru visibly shaken. She was subsequently escorted off stage, leaving attendees and viewers questioning the security measures at the event.
This disturbing event is particularly concerning as it follows two separate stalking incidents Emiru has faced earlier this year, raising alarms about the safety of female streamers in the online and event spaces. Fans and fellow creators have voiced concerns, calling for better protection for streamers.
Previous Incidents Highlighted:
The Santa Monica Pier Incident: In March, during a live charity stream on the Santa Monica Pier, Emiru was approached by a man who persisted in asking for her number. After she declined, he reportedly threatened to continue following her. While initially dismissed as a joke, the man reappeared later, wearing different clothing and making threats. The group managed to find safety in a store until police arrived, though the individual was not apprehended. It was later reported that other streamers had encountered the same man previously.
A Home Invasion Scare: Earlier in 2025, a stalker appeared at Emiru’s home. Streamer Mizkif, who resides with Emiru, recounted on his stream how the individual was banging on their door, specifically asking for Emiru by name. Mizkif armed himself and contacted the police. The intruder left before any further escalation, but was later identified and apprehended, only to be released by authorities.
Twitch’s Response:
In the wake of the TwitchCon assault, Twitch confirmed the banning of the perpetrator and released a statement emphasizing that attendee safety is their top priority. They announced increased security presence at meet-and-greets and entry points. Emiru has remained silent on the incident publicly, but her community has been vocal in expressing their support and demanding better safety protocols.
