A recent drone strike in the besieged city of El-Fasher, Sudan, has resulted in a tragic loss of life, with at least 60 people confirmed dead. The attack, reportedly carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), targeted the Dar al-Arqam displacement camp located within a university. Local activists described the incident as a deliberate act of violence against civilians, stating that “children, women and the elderly were killed in cold blood, and many were completely burned.”
El-Fasher has been a focal point of the ongoing conflict in Sudan, with the RSF surrounding the city for the past 17 months in an attempt to seize control of the Sudanese army’s last remaining stronghold in the Darfur region. The humanitarian situation in the city is described as catastrophic, with residents enduring constant bombardment, widespread hunger, and a severe lack of medical supplies. This latest attack intensifies the ongoing crisis that has plagued Sudan since 2023, following a power struggle between the RSF and the Sudanese army, leading to one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.
