During Battlefield 6’s massive summer reveal, Battlefield Studios announced a new battle royale spinoff, poised to compete with other top titles in the genre. Details remained scarce, with no official name or release date. However, recent rumors hinted at a surprise launch alongside Battlefield 6 Season 1 this week. Now, it’s confirmed, albeit through an accidental reveal: Battlefield RedSec, a free-to-play battle royale experience, is set to launch tomorrow, October 28.
It seems EA intended a surprise launch for Battlefield RedSec, bypassing traditional reveals in trailers or blog posts for Battlefield 6 Season 1. Yet, just a day before the new season’s kickoff, a placeholder for a RedSec gameplay trailer mysteriously appeared on the official Battlefield YouTube channel, counting down to a premiere coinciding with the new season’s start.
The video description, though brief, confirmed two crucial details. It reiterated the trailer’s premiere time (8am PT / 11am ET / 3pm GMT), which is expected to also be the simultaneous launch time for Season 1 and Battlefield RedSec. More importantly, it clearly stated, “Free to Play. October 28th,” confirming its status as a standalone, free-to-play title, much like its direct competitor, Call of Duty Warzone.
Given Battlefield’s social media promotion of the preview, this wasn’t an accidental leak. However, the revelation of RedSec’s name and launch date in such an understated manner is quite anticlimactic. The element of surprise is completely gone. Still, the prospect of a new battle royale arriving tomorrow is exciting news.
Despite the excitement, the timing of RedSec’s launch is a bit unexpected. Battlefield 6 has already garnered significant praise, and its inaugural season would have likely generated ample buzz on its own. It appears there might be underlying concerns about upcoming competitors like Arc Raiders and the highly anticipated Black Ops 7.
Arc Raiders, set to release on Thursday, October 30, poses a potential threat to the new season’s spotlight. Furthermore, Call of Duty has always been Battlefield’s primary rival. By drawing players into RedSec now, EA might be hoping to lessen the appeal of Arc Raiders, Black Ops 7, and any new Call of Duty integrations into Warzone. Personally, I believe holding RedSec back for a few more months might have been a wiser strategy, but time will tell.
So, Battlefield RedSec will be available within the next 24 hours. It’s certainly an exciting, if somewhat rushed, development. Considering Battlefield 6’s reputation as one of the finest FPS games recently, a battle royale built on its foundation holds immense promise for success.
Will you be diving into RedSec this week? Share your thoughts with us! I’m definitely planning to play tomorrow, but the real test will be if it can pull me away from Arc Raiders.
