Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios are extending a generous gesture to Battlefield 6 players who endured frustrating outages on the game’s release day. These initial hiccups prevented many from diving into the action for several crucial hours. Players who purchased the game via the EA app were particularly impacted, facing prolonged downtime and, in some cases, being erroneously prompted to buy DLC just to play their pre-ordered game. Concurrently, some Steam users encountered a perplexing ‘game not released’ warning when attempting to download Battlefield 6.
Despite these early technical difficulties, Battlefield 6’s debut has largely been a triumph. Critical reception, including a ‘triumphant return’ in our own review, has been strong, and the game quickly ascended to the number three spot on Steam, cementing its place among the platform’s most popular titles. After the underwhelming performance of 2042, Battlefield 6 has successfully reclaimed its position among the elite first-person shooters, setting a high bar for Call of Duty ahead of the upcoming Black Ops 7 launch. However, as noted, the journey hasn’t been entirely smooth.

Addressing the issues, Battlefield Studios released a statement: “Today we experienced an outage on the EA app that prevented some of our players who pre-ordered Battlefield 6 from accessing the game,” they wrote. “We know this can be frustrating, so we wanted to offer an apology… with perks.” The studio confirmed that a fix has been deployed, and affected players should now be able to access the game as usual. Interestingly, before the official fix, Respawn head Vince Zampella publicly suggested to impacted users that they should “refund and buy on Steam,” adding, “I have yelled about EA app people.”
To compensate those who experienced the downtime, Battlefield Studios is providing a two-part gift. This weekend, affected players will receive 12 Hardware Boosters and 12 Career Boosters directly to their in-game inbox. These boosters are designed to help players rank up quickly and unlock the best weapons and attachments available in Battlefield 6. Additionally, all compensated players will receive “full access to a seasonal battle pass.” For those who purchased the premium Phantom Edition, which already includes the current battle pass, the compensation will instead be the Season 2 battle pass.

The development team also acknowledged an ongoing ‘Game not released’ Steam warning that some players encounter when trying to download the multiplayer game. They offered a potential workaround: opening the game’s properties menu in your Steam library and then unticking both the ‘Battlefield 6 multiplayer HD marker’ and ‘Battlefield multiplayer marker’ DLC options. The studio urged players to report if this solution doesn’t resolve their issue, as they continue to investigate the situation. Other community-suggested fixes include clearing your Steam download cache or simply restarting the launcher.

Furthermore, the developer is actively investigating a separate issue preventing some players from receiving various in-game rewards, including those from the Phantom Edition, open beta participation, and the ‘Road to Battlefield 6’ challenges. An update on this matter will be provided once a resolution is found.
