As tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan reached a boiling point, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he sees the ongoing conflict as an ‘easy’ challenge for him to solve, should he choose to intervene.
Speaking to the media following a bilateral lunch with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday, October 17, 2025, Mr. Trump stated, “I do understand Pakistan attacked or there is an attack going on with Afghanistan; that’s an easy one for me to solve if I have to solve that.”
Trump reiterated his claim of having saved millions of lives, expressing full confidence in his ability to bring about a successful resolution to the Afghanistan-Pakistan dispute. “I like stopping people from being killed. I have saved millions and millions of lives, and I think we are going to have success with this war,” the former U.S. president asserted.
His comments come as Pakistan initiated new air strikes targeting suspected terrorist hideouts within Afghanistan, jeopardizing fragile ceasefire agreements that had briefly paused hostilities. These strikes were reportedly a response to a recent gun-and-bomb attack by terrorists on a military installation in North Waziristan, occurring just hours after Islamabad and Kabul had extended a two-day ceasefire, according to a report by the Dawn on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
In a related remark, Mr. Trump once again voiced his frustration over not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, despite his claims of having resolved “eight wars.”
“You know we resolved eight others, it’s funny how people say this, if you get this one… every time I do one, they forget about that one. I solved eight wars,” Mr. Trump lamented. He further added, “Every time I solve one, they say if you solve the next one, you are going to get the Nobel prize.”
However, he quickly clarified that his efforts were not driven by the desire for such an award. Without naming her, he mentioned the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner, María Corina Machado, stating, “I did not get the Nobel prize. Somebody got it was a very nice woman, very nice, I don’t know who she is, but she was very generous, so I don’t care about all that stuff, I just care about saving lives.”
