A doctor named Arshiet Dhamnaskar has ignited a widespread conversation on social media after recounting an experience from a trip to Switzerland. He shared how a notice in his hotel room specifically addressed “Indian tourists,” advising them against taking buffet food to their rooms.
Dhamnaskar mentioned that the message, while understandable in its intent to prevent food hoarding, was hurtful due to its discriminatory wording. He stated, “The one real thing that hurt me was that the message could have been addressed to anyone and everyone. But it specifically started with: ‘Dear Indian tourists,’” highlighting how singling out a nationality felt unfair.
The post gained significant traction, drawing mixed reactions. Many netizens echoed his sentiment, feeling it reflected an unfair stereotype. However, some users defended the hotel’s action, suggesting it might have been a response to repeated incidents of such behavior by some Indian travelers. Others pointed out that such practices are not exclusive to Indian tourists, with instances of people from other nationalities also being observed taking extra food items.
