After two years of celebrating Diwali virtually, actor Tanya Maniktala is finally back in her hometown, New Delhi, to ring in the festival with her parents. “We’re four siblings, my sister lives in Australia and my brothers are in the US, so it’s been a virtual festival for many years. I’m just happy to be home for a week,” she shares with a smile, adding, “The best part is sleeping endlessly in my ghar ka bed!”
Known for her roles in the action film Kill (2024) and the series Loot Kaand, Tanya reveals a special family tradition that defines their Diwali celebrations: practicing Sahaj Marg meditation. This deeply rooted ritual, started by her grandparents, brings the family together. “My parents and I will meditate together, while my siblings join online. That’s our puja, our aarti,” Tanya explains. “For us, Diwali is about connection, and this is how we celebrate it.” Their home in Janak Puri also serves as a Heartfulness Committee center, often welcoming members to join the meditation sessions during the week.
Tanya fondly recalls growing up with this meditative approach to Diwali. “After 16 years of age, anyone can join the meditation. So, it’s a big family for us. I look forward to it whenever I am in Delhi for the group meditation.” This year, she’s also excited about catching up with friends who are visiting Delhi, emphasizing a preference for low-key, relaxed celebrations.
When it comes to festive style, Tanya opts for comfort, favoring simple salwar suits. “I like to be comfortable at home,” she says. The culinary highlights include her aunt’s special ‘makkhan malai’ and the overall joy of authentic Delhi and home-cooked food.
Tanya Maniktala’s upcoming projects include the OTT series Pan Parda Zarda.
