The much-anticipated film Kantara Chapter 1, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, is making waves with its music, masterfully composed by Ajaneesh Loknath. The soundtrack features standout tracks like ‘Brahmakalasha’ and ‘Rebel’, which are integral to the film’s narrative. Notably, the Hindi rendition of ‘Rebel’ is brought to life by the talented vocals of Diljit Dosanjh.
In a candid conversation with Hindustan Times, Ajaneesh Loknath shared his delightful experience collaborating with Diljit Dosanjh. He recalled that Dosanjh, a fan of the original Kantara, had a deep appreciation for the film and engaged in meaningful discussions about it with Shetty.
The Genesis of ‘Rebel’ with Diljit Dosanjh
The song ‘Rebel’ plays a pivotal role in the movie, signifying a powerful warning from Rishab Shetty’s character, Berme, and his clan to King Kulashekara. The song’s promotional video, which garnered millions of views, beautifully captures Dosanjh immersed in the world of Kantara, resonating with the people and championing their cause.
Ajaneesh explained the choice of Dosanjh for the Hindi version: “The song features screams and grunts that signify strength, which are challenging to perform. I needed a singer with the vocal prowess for such expressions, and I knew certain Punjabi singers could achieve this. When Rishab and Hombale Films agreed to the idea, we felt Diljit would be the ideal choice for the Hindi rendition. Diljit understood the film’s essence from the outset, and it was wonderful to see him and Rishab connect over it.”
Ajaneesh Loknath on Diljit Dosanjh’s Professionalism
Dosanjh, who had previously shared a teaser of the recording session, expressed his ‘personal connection’ to the film. He had been deeply moved by Kantara, even admitting to shedding tears of ecstasy during the screening when ‘Varaha Roopam’ played.
Loknath praised Dosanjh’s humility and dedication: “He never made me feel like he was a star or had any airs. He provided me with the creative freedom to record the song as I envisioned. He even brought a harmonium and asked me to guide him through the tune. This level of investment from a singer is truly remarkable, as it’s not always common for them to be so deeply involved.” Loknath concluded with admiration, stating, “When we heard his voice, Rishab and I were astounded. We knew he was exactly what the song needed.”
Kantara Chapter 1 is currently showing in cinemas across South India and Hindi-speaking regions. An English version is slated for release on October 31.
