Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh is set to appear on Amitabh Bachchan’s popular quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati 17. A recently surfaced clip from the upcoming episode features a lighthearted exchange where Diljit confesses his dislike for one of Big B’s films, much to the superstar’s surprise and amusement.
In the humorous clip, Diljit explained his reasoning: “When your films used to release, I would feel really happy thinking, ‘Great, there’s finally some good action!’ But sir, there’s one film of yours I didn’t like — Saudagar.” Bachchan’s reaction was one of surprise.
Diljit further elaborated, sharing that he was initially excited because the announcement suggested an Amitabh Bachchan film, only to find him selling jaggery in “Saudagar.” This honest, playful confession left the legendary actor in splits.
About Saudagar
“Saudagar,” released in 1973 and directed by Sudhendu Roy, starred Amitabh Bachchan and Nutan in lead roles. The film, based on Narendranath Mitra’s short story “Ras,” depicted Bachchan as Moti, a trader of jaggery. His character’s journey involves marrying Mahzubi (Nutan) for her exceptional jaggery-making skills, later divorcing her for Phoolbanu (Padma Khanna), only to realize Mahzubi’s contribution to his success.
Although “Saudagar” did not perform well commercially, it was submitted as India’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 46th Academy Awards. The film highlighted Bachchan’s early performances before he became known as the “Angry Young Man” of Indian cinema.
