Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has achieved a significant milestone in his career with his first-ever nomination for the International Emmy Awards 2025. The nominations were announced recently, placing Diljit in the running for Best Performance by an Actor. His nomination recognizes his powerful portrayal in the Netflix biographical drama ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, a film helmed by the acclaimed director Imtiaz Ali.
Diljit shared his excitement on Instagram Stories, re-posting the nomination announcement and attributing his success to Imtiaz Ali. He wrote, “It’s all because of @imtiazaliofficial sir,” accompanied by a heartfelt emoji, also tagging Netflix India.
In the competitive Best Performance by an Actor category, Diljit will face stiff competition from David Mitchell (Ludwig), Oriol Pla (Yo, Adicto), and Diego Vasquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude). Adding to the celebration, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ also secured a nomination for Best TV Movie/Mini-Series, marking a double triumph for the film’s team.
Diljit’s co-star, Parineeti Chopra, also extended her congratulations, re-sharing a post on her Instagram Stories and expressing pride in the ‘Chamkila’ team.
The film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, directed by Imtiaz Ali, chronicles the life of the legendary Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila, often hailed as the ‘Elvis of Punjab’. Chamkila rose to prominence in the 1980s for his bold music and electrifying performances, but his life was tragically cut short in 1988 at the age of 27, alongside his wife Amarjot Kaur. The film, released on Netflix in April 2024, was co-written by Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Ali.
This nomination further highlights the growing international recognition of Indian content, following previous Emmy successes like ‘Delhi Crime’ winning Best Drama Series in 2020 and Vir Das receiving an Emmy in 2021 for his comedy special ‘Vir Das: For India’.
