It’s easy to feel close to celebrities we see on screen for years, but their personal journeys often remain private. Nicole Kidman’s recent divorce from Keith Urban highlights this very fact. In an interview with Vogue back in August, the 58-year-old actress offered a veiled hint at significant life changes ahead.
When she later filed for divorce from her husband of nearly two decades, Keith Urban, her earlier statements took on a poignant significance. During a conversation with Wendell Steavenson for her profile in the magazine, Kidman responded to a question about being in her fifties with a thoughtful perspective. Instead of the usual upbeat affirmations about feeling young, she offered a more honest assessment, describing herself as “wry, rueful, unsure of herself.” She mused, “How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going and then it isn’t going in that direction?”
Kidman initiated divorce proceedings last month, citing irreconcilable differences. She and Urban, who were married for almost 20 years, are parents to two daughters: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. Kidman has requested to be named the “primary residential parent” for their children. Reports suggest the couple had been living separately since the beginning of the summer, indicating that marital issues may have been present for some time. Insiders also indicate that Kidman initially fought to save the marriage, but the relationship ultimately could not be sustained.
The acclaimed actress has already returned to work. Following the news of the divorce, she made her first public appearance at the amfAR Gala in Dallas on October 4th. She was later seen at Chanel’s Paris Fashion Week event, accompanied by her daughters.
