Tragedy struck a Texas border city over the weekend as a man unleashed gunfire in the parking lot of a casino, leaving two people dead and at least five others injured. Authorities are actively investigating the motives behind the attack.
The alleged shooter, 34-year-old Keryan Rashad Jones, was taken into custody following a traffic stop several hours after the late Saturday night incident at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass. Jones’s arrest came on Sunday morning after a pursuit that extended approximately 180 miles east of Eagle Pass, near Stockdale, as confirmed by the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber stated that Jones is facing severe charges, including two counts of capital murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Details regarding his legal representation and current holding location remain unclear.
The Texas Department of Public Safety, through Lt. Christopher Olivarez, confirmed that the investigation into the shooting’s cause is ongoing. The Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Police Department is spearheading the inquiry, and the casino will remain closed as the investigation progresses.
