A Pakistani military convoy suffered a devastating attack near the Afghan border on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Sources confirm that nine soldiers and two officers were killed in the ambush, for which the Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility.
Security officials, who spoke to Reuters, revealed that the assault began with roadside bombs striking the convoy in the northwestern Kurram district. Following the explosions, a significant number of militants initiated a fierce gun battle.
In an official statement, the Pakistani army disclosed that the fallen soldiers were part of a larger operation in the adjacent Orakzai district, an engagement that also saw 19 Islamist militants killed.
Separately, the Pakistani Taliban directly confirmed their involvement, issuing a statement to a Reuters reporter claiming their fighters carried out the attack on the convoy.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an organization dedicated to overthrowing the current government and imposing a strict form of Islamic rule, has significantly intensified its attacks on Pakistani security forces in recent months.
