“Can your PC really handle Crysis?” This legendary question is a cornerstone among my gaming friends whenever someone invests in new hardware. It’s become an enduring joke within the gaming community, a testament to the sheer graphical intensity Crytek packed into the original trilogy, solidifying its status as the benchmark for high-end gaming rigs. Beyond just pushing hardware to its limits, these titles are fantastic FPS games, offering incredible visuals for their time and satisfying gunplay. And now, four of these iconic experiences are available on GOG with a significant discount.
To be clear, four Crysis games have officially joined the GOG library. This includes the acclaimed original Crysis, now accessible through their platform. Additionally, the Crysis Remastered Trilogy, which bundles the modernized versions of the three main Crysis installments, is also part of this exciting release.
This release is significant for several important reasons. Firstly, GOG is renowned for its commitment to DRM-free gaming. What this means in simple terms is that you won’t need an active internet connection to prove ownership or play these games. Unlike many titles purchased on other platforms, like Steam, which often require online authentication, GOG titles are yours to play offline whenever you wish.
Secondly, this move helps preserve the legacy of these classic games. Just a few months ago, the original Crysis vanished from a popular digital storefront, making it difficult for PC players to access the classic experience. Its absence on that platform continues to this day.
However, there’s a slight disappointment for some. While this GOG release is certainly cause for celebration, it exclusively features the remastered editions of Crysis 2 and Crysis 3, not their original counterparts. Though the remasters boast impressive visuals, many long-time fans yearn to revisit the initial versions. They have surprisingly stood the test of time, and a DRM-free option for the original Crysis 3, in particular, would have been highly appreciated, as it famously required an EA account login to play. Being able to enjoy this underrated threequel without such online prerequisites would be ideal.
Despite this minor snag, I’m personally thrilled to dive back into the Crysis Remastered Trilogy through GOG. The original Crysis remains a true masterpiece, earning an impressive aggregate score of 91 on Metacritic. With a substantial 75% discount available for a limited time, it’s an offer that’s truly hard to resist.
Crysis and the Crysis Remastered Trilogy are now live on GOG. They are currently discounted to approximately $5.38 / £3.99 and $19.54 / £14.49 respectively, with this special pricing ending on Tuesday, October 7.
If you’ve missed out on this particular sale or prefer to wait for future discounts on the classic editions, keep an eye on news regarding Crysis 4. To truly appreciate these visually demanding titles, consider upgrading to one of the best gaming monitors available.
