Creative Assembly, the studio behind Total War Warhammer 3, has candidly admitted to a ‘frustrating year’ as they announced a second delay for their upcoming ‘Tides of Torment’ DLC. In a recent blog post, community head Adam Freeman addressed ongoing campaign AI bugs affecting several popular factions and detailed plans for the game’s 7.0 update and the new expansion. He also confirmed that a new mod manager from Creative Assembly would launch concurrently with these updates, replacing the old Total War launcher.
The past few months have been challenging for Total War: Warhammer 3, a title usually celebrated as one of the premier strategy games on PC. While a critical unit-recruitment bug for the Tomb Kings and Lizardmen has been resolved, similar problems persist for many other factions, including the Beastmen and Chaos Dwarfs, alongside new emerging issues. Freeman emphasized Creative Assembly’s commitment, stating, ‘We want to be clear with you that while we want to get new content out for you, we know we must prioritize any urgent fixes to get the game in a better place for you all.’
Expressing regret, Freeman stated, ‘We’re sorry that the game entered this state,’ acknowledging the recent wave of problems. He admitted the issue wasn’t initially prioritized correctly, with fixes planned for the 7.0 update. However, he confirmed a significant change: moving forward, similar bugs will be designated as ‘showstopper, severity-A’ issues, demanding immediate hotfix deployment and blocking any full release until resolved.
The ‘Tides of Torment’ expansion, which introduces new legendary lords for Slaanesh, Norsca, and the High Elves, has unfortunately been delayed once more, with its new release date set for Thursday, December 4. Freeman highlighted the impact of this decision, noting, ‘It will be our second delay to the release of this DLC and will arrive a year after the launch of our last one.’ He acknowledged player frustration, adding, ‘We know this is frustrating for you; it is for all of us too. In short, it’s been a frustrating year, but we absolutely do not want to repeat past mistakes.’
Alongside the delayed DLC, the highly anticipated Total War: Warhammer 3 Update 7.0 is set to launch. This update will bring significant enhancements for the three featured factions and introduce a free legendary lord: The Masque of Slaanesh. This new lord will engage in ‘The Eternal Dance,’ a dynamic campaign mechanic where armies execute themed dances to accumulate escalating bonuses, promoting aggressive strategies and continuous advancement.
Finally, the much-anticipated Total War mod manager is nearing completion. With the rollout of Update 7.0, Creative Assembly will modify the game’s Steam launch options. Players will then have the choice to either completely bypass the traditional Total War launcher or utilize the revamped application for managing their game addons. To ensure minimal disruption for players engaged in modded campaigns who prefer not to participate in early testing, the original launcher option will remain accessible until the new mod manager reaches its 1.0 release.
Creative Assembly is also gearing up to ‘unveil the future of Total War’ during a special 25th-anniversary showcase, also scheduled for Thursday, December 4. This event will feature the Total War Championship, insightful roundtables, and exciting reveals of ‘new historical and fantasy titles,’ presented by their creators. The community hopes that by then, the critical bug issues plaguing Total War: Warhammer 3 will have been successfully addressed.
To reiterate, the highly anticipated Total War Warhammer 3 DLC, ‘Tides of Torment,’ will now officially launch on Thursday, December 4, coinciding with game update 7.0 and the introduction of the new Total War mod manager. Players can look forward to a first glimpse of the new expansion’s gameplay on Thursday, November 6.
