Get ready, City Hunter fans! The iconic 1990 PC Engine (known as Turbografx-16 in the West) video game based on Tsukasa Hojo’s hit manga and anime series is finally receiving a much-anticipated digital remaster. Clouded Leopard Entertainment and Red Art Games are bringing this classic back, marking another exciting event in the ongoing 40th-anniversary celebration of the City Hunter franchise.
Inspired by the very first season of the City Hunter anime, the game plunges players into an original side story. You’ll step into the shoes of the legendary ‘sweeper,’ Ryo Saeba, as he battles to foil the nefarious schemes of a sinister megacorporation threatening global peace. Expect classic retro-style action reimagined for modern platforms.
This new edition comes loaded with welcome enhancements, including full language support for English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish, making it accessible to a wider international audience. Perhaps the most exciting addition for long-time fans is the inclusion of TM Network’s iconic theme song, “Get Wild,” integrated into the game’s soundtrack, promising a wave of nostalgia.
The digital remaster, dubbed the “Revival Edition,” will launch on February 26, 2026, across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. PC gamers can already add the game to their Steam wishlists!
For collectors and dedicated fans, physical editions will be available in Europe one month later, on March 26 – a date famously known as Ryo Saeba’s birthday! Red Art Games will offer these physical copies for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 in three distinct versions:
- Standard Edition: Includes the game itself.
- Deluxe Edition: Features the game, a special sleeve, and an unannounced bonus item.
- Collector’s Edition: Limited to just 500 copies per platform, this premium edition comes with a steelcase, an acrylic art stand, a soundtrack CD, and additional extras.
Pre-orders for these physical editions are set to open very soon, on September 26. Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of City Hunter history!
For those new to the series or looking to revisit Ryo Saeba’s adventures, the original City Hunter anime, along with several of its films (including 2019’s Shinjuku Private Eyes), is available for streaming. The series introduces Ryo Saeba as a top-tier private detective and hitman, renowned for his superhuman marksmanship. Alongside his partner, Kaori Makimura, Ryo takes on dangerous assignments, navigating both criminal underworlds and Kaori’s trusty 100-ton hammers used to curb his ‘mokkori’ advances towards attractive clients.
