Tragedy struck at Hong Kong International Airport early this morning as a cargo plane veered off the runway during landing, plunging into the sea. The incident, which occurred just before 04:00 local time, involved an Emirates flight operating as Aerotranscargo, arriving from Dubai. Reports indicate that the aircraft made contact with a vehicle on the north runway prior to the accident.
Tragically, the accident has claimed at least one life, with local media reporting the fatality. Four crew members aboard the aircraft have been successfully rescued and transported to the hospital for treatment. However, distressing reports from the Civil Aviation department confirm that two ground staff members were in the water following the crash, and their current condition remains unknown.
In response to the incident, the affected runway has been temporarily closed. However, Hong Kong International Airport continues to operate using its remaining two runways, minimizing further disruption to air travel.
