In a troubling turn of events, a movie theater in Oakville, Canada, recently experienced two distinct violent incidents within a span of just ten days. The incidents occurred while the cinema was screening the Pawan Kalyan-starrer OG. Halton Police confirmed that Film.ca Cinemas was targeted on both September 25, and October 2, 2025.

The first attack, on September 25, 2025, involved two unidentified suspects who used a flammable liquid to set fire to the theater’s exterior entrance doors.

🚨 Cowardly Attack Fails: Film.Ca Cinemas Remains Open and United 🚨

In the early hours of September 25, Film.Ca Cinemas was the target of an attempted arson. Thankfully, no one was on site, and our theatre remains fully open and safe for guests.…

Ashley Drysdale, Communications Manager for Film.Ca Cinemas, reported that the fire was contained to the exterior and caused moderate damage. Crucially, no staff or guests were present at the time, and the cinema has continued its operations uninterrupted.

Just a week later, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, the same theater was subjected to a targeted shooting. An armed individual approached the main entrance and discharged multiple rounds through the doors.

Officials emphasized that both violent acts took place during overnight hours when the theater was closed, and thankfully, no injuries were reported in either incident.

Among the films recently shown at the cinema was They Call Him OG, a Telugu film featuring Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

While the exact motive behind these attacks is still under investigation, Film.Ca Cinemas acknowledged that it has faced challenges in the past related to Indian film screenings. However, they stressed that a direct link to the current incidents cannot be definitively confirmed. Following the events, the Telugu film has been removed from the screening schedule, though other international movies remain available.

Despite the repeated acts of violence, Film.Ca Cinemas has affirmed its commitment to staying open. Jeff Knoll, CEO of Film.Ca Cinemas, declared on September 25, ‘We will not be intimidated by cowardly acts of violence. Our theatre is a place for families, friends, and the community to come together. We are open, we are strong, and we will continue to provide a safe and welcoming space for everyone.’

The Halton Regional Police are actively pursuing an investigation into both cases.
