Skate’s highly anticipated early access is finally here, but for those hoping to jump in on Valve’s incredibly popular Steam Deck, we have some unfortunate news. While the official Skate Steam Deck compatibility rating is still pending, developer Full Circle has already issued a definitive statement on the matter.
Although Skate’s system requirements might suggest it could run on the Steam Deck’s hardware, a familiar obstacle for many EA-published games is once again causing trouble: EA’s anti-cheat technology. This is certainly a letdown for Steam Deck enthusiasts, but it’s good news for owners of Windows-based gaming handhelds, which should have no problem running Skate as long as they meet the game’s specifications.
So, Can You Play Skate on the Steam Deck?
No, Skate is currently unsupported on the Steam Deck because the game does not offer compatibility with the Linux operating system. Despite its ‘unknown’ status, we anticipate this rating will soon be officially updated to reflect its incompatibility once the early access period fully kicks off.
Just like with other EA titles such as Apex Legends, EA Sports FC, and the F1 series, Skate utilizes EA’s anti-cheat system, which simply doesn’t function on Linux. This prevents it from running natively on the Steam Deck.
However, if you own a handheld gaming PC running Windows, like the ASUS ROG Ally X, and it meets Skate’s system requirements, you’ll be able to play without any issues.
Even though Skate won’t be joining your Steam Deck library, there’s a fantastic selection of other games you can enjoy on Valve’s handheld right now.
