BTS leader RM, also known as Kim Namjoon, recently shared personal insights into his views on marriage and fatherhood during a live session on Weverse. The globally recognized artist reflected on societal pressures, particularly those faced by women regarding starting a family.
RM on Marriage and Children
At 32 years old, RM expressed that marriage is a possibility if he meets the right person at the right time, but he also acknowledged the alternative of remaining single. He highlighted that societal expectations often create pressure around marriage and having children, especially for women. “I just wish everyone could live according to their own pace,” he commented, emphasizing personal autonomy in life decisions.
Reflections on Loneliness and Parenthood
RM pondered the idea of marriage as a solution to loneliness, suggesting that it might not be the right motivation for such a significant commitment. When discussing children, he admitted to feeling uncertain, humorously stating, “I can barely handle raising myself.” He also conveyed that bringing a new life into the world isn’t always predictable. He fondly recalled his own childhood, mentioning that he gave his parents a difficult time, and joked that it would be “frustrating” to have a child as challenging as he was.
Generational Shifts and BTS’s Future
RM noted that his generation is the first in Korea to view marriage as a personal choice rather than a societal obligation. The BTS members, including RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, are currently preparing for the release of their first album in four years. The group commenced work on this new album in the US in July, with the record anticipated to drop in Spring next year, marking their first collective release since “Proof” in 2022.
