The Bombay High Court recently delivered a noteworthy ruling, dismissing a petition aimed at preventing the release of the much-anticipated courtroom comedy, “Jolly LLB 3.” The film, starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, faced accusations of disrespecting judges and lawyers. However, the court, accustomed to such cinematic portrayals, found no merit in the claims.
A key moment in the hearing saw the High Court succinctly quash the concerns with a memorable remark: “Don’t worry about us,” signifying their confidence and resilience.
The petition, lodged by the ‘Association for Aiding Justice’ via advocate Chandrakant Gaikwad, specifically called for an injunction against the movie’s theatrical release and demanded the removal of the song ‘Bhai Vakeel Hai,’ which was deemed offensive to the legal community.
Advocate Dipesh Siroya, representing the petitioners, argued that both the film and its controversial song explicitly mocked legal professionals and even members of the judiciary. He highlighted a particular scene where judges are referred to as “mamu,” a colloquial term he asserted was deeply insulting and derogatory.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad, reacted with a degree of amusement to these allegations. They confidently dismissed the plea, stating, “We have been facing mockery since day one. Don’t worry about us,” underscoring the judiciary’s robust stance and tolerance.
During the proceedings, the filmmakers’ legal team pointed out that an identical petition against “Jolly LLB 3” had previously been filed and dismissed by the Allahabad High Court, reinforcing their argument against the current plea.
With the Bombay High Court’s dismissal, the path is now clear for “Jolly LLB 3” to proceed with its scheduled release on September 19.
