It was a reassuring announcement from Konami: Bloober Team would be remaking the original Silent Hill. This classic, one of the most iconic survival horror games ever made, is truly deserving of a complete modern overhaul. Bloober Team had already impressed fans with their fantastic reimagining of Silent Hill 2, demonstrating their ability to capture the essence of the series while introducing contemporary flair. Now, the acclaimed Polish studio has officially confirmed that development is actively underway on the Silent Hill remake, alongside a mysterious, undisclosed new project.
Between Konami’s reveal of Silent Hill f and Bloober’s recent launch of Cronos The New Dawn, both companies have had a busy period. However, the Silent Hill remake remains a significant point of connection. While Silent Hill 2 often receives praise as the series’ pinnacle, there’s an undeniable desire among fans to see the original game brought to life with stunning, modern graphics. Bloober’s work on the Silent Hill 2 remake perfectly balanced faithfulness to the source material with necessary updates, and its popularity made entrusting them with the original a clear choice for Konami.
During an investor Q&A session held on September 30, Bloober confirmed that, following its initial announcement in June, production on the Silent Hill 1 remake has officially commenced. The studio stated, “We have two first-party production teams; one is dedicated to working on Silent Hill 1, and the other has already started on a second, separate project.” While this exciting news doesn’t provide any concrete details about the Silent Hill remake’s potential release date, it clearly indicates Bloober’s immediate focus on these new endeavors after the successful launch of Cronos.
Interestingly, Bloober also confirmed they currently have no plans for DLC or a sequel for their recently released horror title, Cronos The New Dawn. Instead, their mysterious “second project” is clearly commanding the full attention of their other dedicated production team.
This sparks exciting speculation: could this secret project be a return to their beloved Layers of Fear series? Perhaps an entirely new IP and universe, similar to Cronos? Or, donning a speculative tinfoil hat, might it even be an original Silent Hill game developed for Konami? Bloober has previously expressed interest in exploring the Silent Hill universe beyond its traditional setting, and with Silent Hill f already expanding the lore, an original Bloober-helmed Silent Hill game set, for example, in Poland or elsewhere in Europe, would be a fascinating prospect.
Alright, tinfoil hat off for a moment. Back to reality. For dedicated horror aficionados, the Silent Hill 1 remake is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated upcoming PC games, standing alongside titles like Resident Evil 9, Hideo Kojima’s OD, and Hellraiser: Revival. Given the positive reception of their Silent Hill 2 remake, it would be genuinely surprising if Bloober fails to deliver.
