Big Names Join Forces for the Highly Anticipated Call of Duty Film

Just a couple of months after Paramount announced its partnership with Activision to bring a Call of Duty film to cinemas, the project is already gaining serious momentum. The studio has now assembled an A-list writing team for the script, featuring none other than Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan.

Sources indicate that Sheridan will collaborate on the screenplay with the film’s director, Peter Berg. This announcement raised a few eyebrows, considering Sheridan recently signed a new deal to depart Paramount for NBCUniversal once his current contract concludes in 2028. However, it appears Paramount holds no ill will regarding his upcoming move, keen to leverage his talent for this major project.

Sheridan brings a stellar resume to the project, having earned an Oscar nomination for his work on Hell or High Water. His screenwriting credits also include acclaimed films like Wind River, Sicario, and Sicario: Day of the Soldado. In the realm of television and streaming, he’s achieved remarkable success with numerous Yellowstone prequels and popular Paramount+ originals such as Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, and Lioness.

Director Peter Berg also boasts an impressive filmography, with notable works including The Rundown, Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom, Hancock, Battleship, Deepwater Horizon, and Lone Survivor.

Interestingly, Activision recently surveyed Call of Duty fans to gauge their preferences for the film’s narrative direction. The long-running military shooter franchise, which debuted in 2003, spans various historical and futuristic settings. This isn’t the first attempt to bring Call of Duty to the big screen; even Steven Spielberg reportedly expressed interest in directing, though Activision ultimately decided against his vision.

Beyond the film, Paramount’s agreement with Activision also includes the potential for a Call of Duty TV series, although no further details have emerged on that front. Meanwhile, fans can look forward to the next installment in the game series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, launching on November 14 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
