In a firm move to uphold workplace standards, Bengaluru-based entrepreneur Abhijit Gupta, co-founder of popular food establishments like The Pizza Bakery and Paris Panini, recently conducted a surprise inspection of his restaurant kitchens. During this unannounced visit, Gupta discovered and subsequently terminated the employment of three staff members for violating the company’s stringent zero-tolerance policy on drugs and alcohol.
Gupta shared a video of the inspection on Instagram, emphasizing the importance of such checks in ensuring business integrity and operational quality. He stated, “Surprise check visits keep the pulse of the business real — what you see on paper and what’s on-ground can be two very different things. It’s these checks that keep our systems strong and our standards tighter.”
During his visit to the Yelahanka outlet, Gupta found the kitchen in good order, with no issues regarding product quality. However, at the Sahakarnagar outlet, he personally investigated a customer complaint about a pizza’s seasoning. After tasting the pizza, he agreed with the feedback, noting that the broccoli could have been seasoned better, and committed to addressing the culinary aspect.
It was later revealed by the general manager that three employees were terminated that day. Gupta clarified the reason for these dismissals: “We have a zero drug policy, zero alcohol policy. You cannot show up to work high on weed or alcohol. Unfortunately, we had to terminate these guys just to set an example for the rest of the team. It’s sad, we don’t like terminating people, but it had to be done.”
The entrepreneur’s decisive action has garnered significant praise on social media, with users commending his commitment to quality, customer satisfaction, and a disciplined work environment. Many applauded his proactive management style and his dedication to building a strong brand based on clear standards and accountability.
