Fans of Mika Yamamori’s captivating romance manga, ‘In the Clear Moonlit Dusk,’ have exciting news to look forward to: a live-action film adaptation is officially slated for release in Fall 2026. The announcement came with the reveal of the two lead cast members, introducing the actors who will embody the story’s beloved ‘Princes.’
Shunsuke Michieda, a member of the idol group Naniwa Danshi, steps into the role of the male protagonist, Kohaku Ichimura. Alongside him, Seira Anzai, known for her role in the ‘Insomniacs After School’ live-action film, will portray the main heroine, Yoi Takiguchi. Both actors were featured in initial teaser visuals, giving fans a glimpse into their on-screen chemistry.
Guiding this adaptation is director Kentaro Tanimura, recognized for his work on the ‘TRILLION GAME’ live-action drama series. The screenplay is penned by Yuichi Tokunaga, who previously worked on the ‘Cells at Work!’ live-action film. Director Tanimura expressed his honor in bringing Yamamori-sensei’s ‘delicate and beautiful world’ to the big screen. He praised Michieda and Anzai’s compelling portrayals of Kohaku and Yoi, both characters affectionately dubbed ‘Princes’ due to their striking looks and personalities. Tanimura hopes that both long-time manga enthusiasts and newcomers will experience the earnest human stories and the often clumsy, yet poignant, journey of growth depicted in the film.
Mika Yamamori’s original ‘In the Clear Moonlit Dusk’ manga has been a serialized favorite in Kodansha’s Dessert female manga magazine since July 2020, with ten collected volumes released in Japan to date. In addition to the upcoming film, the series also saw a TV anime adaptation, which premiered in Japan on January 11, 2026.
The story revolves around Yoi Takiguchi, a first-year high school student whose handsome appearance and sincere nature have earned her the nickname ‘Prince.’ Her life takes an intriguing turn when she encounters Kohaku Ichimura, an upperclassman who shares the same unique moniker. As these two ‘Princes’ begin to spend more time together, the narrative beautifully explores the evolving nature of their relationship—is it friendship, or is something more profound blossoming between them? This youthful romance promises to be a touching exploration of connection and identity.
