During the massive Battlefield 6 reveal event this summer, Battlefield Studios hinted at a new spin-off battle royale experience, promising to contend with the genre’s biggest names. Since then, details have been scarce, with no official name or launch date mentioned. However, recent rumors suggested a “shadow drop” alongside Battlefield 6 Season 1 this week, and now, it appears those whispers were accurate. Accidentally confirmed, the new free-to-play battle royale is titled Battlefield RedSec and is set to launch tomorrow, October 28!
It seems EA initially aimed for a dramatic “shadow drop” announcement for Battlefield RedSec, bypassing traditional trailers and blog posts for Battlefield 6 Season 1. But just 24 hours before the new season’s kickoff, a placeholder for a RedSec gameplay trailer unexpectedly appeared on the official Battlefield YouTube channel, teasing a premiere scheduled for the exact same time as the season launch.
The video’s description, though brief, confirms two crucial details. Firstly, it reiterates the trailer’s premiere time: 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 3 PM GMT, which is expected to coincide with both the Season 1 launch and Battlefield RedSec’s official release. Secondly, a clear statement reads, “Free to Play. October 28th,” solidifying its status as a free, standalone experience, much like its competitor, Call of Duty Warzone.

Given Battlefield’s social media promotion of the preview, this reveal isn’t an accidental leak. However, it’s still somewhat deflating to discover RedSec’s name and launch details through such an understated channel. The element of surprise is largely gone. Nevertheless, the good news remains: a brand-new battle royale game will be available to play tomorrow, and that’s something to look forward to!
To be frank, the timing of RedSec’s release comes as a bit of a surprise. Battlefield 6 has already garnered significant praise, and the anticipation for its first season seemed ample to satisfy most fans. It appears that despite its current success, there might be underlying concerns regarding the upcoming launches of Arc Raiders and Black Ops 7.
The imminent release of Arc Raiders on Thursday, October 30, could divert attention from Battlefield’s new season. Plus, Call of Duty has always been Battlefield’s fiercest rival. Perhaps the strategy is to engross players in RedSec immediately, making Arc Raiders, Black Ops 7, and the new Call of Duty’s Warzone integration less appealing. Personally, I believe holding RedSec back for a few more months might have been wiser, but only time will tell how this plays out.

In summary, Battlefield 6 RedSec is heading our way in less than 24 hours! These are certainly exciting, if a little frantic, times for gamers. Given that Battlefield 6 has established itself as one of the premier first-person shooters of recent years, a battle royale experience built upon its foundation sounds like a surefire hit.
Are you planning to dive into RedSec this week? We’d love to hear your thoughts! I’ll certainly be joining the action tomorrow, though whether it can pull me away from Arc Raiders.
