Even though real-world commitments have limited my time with Battlefield 6, I’ve still dedicated several hours to the game. My experience has been largely positive – it truly feels like a strong return to form and ranks among the best first-person shooters I’ve enjoyed in a long time. However, one significant concern is the game’s sluggish progression system. Frankly, six hours of gameplay hasn’t yielded much in terms of unlocks. Acquiring new weapons, attachments, and gadgets feels incredibly slow. While no one wants progression to be effortless, the integrity of Battlefield 6’s Portal mode is suffering because the main game’s reward system isn’t generous enough. This scarcity has predictably led to players heavily utilizing XP-farming servers.
I’m generally in favor of an ‘optimized’ progression grind – finding specific Portal servers that suit your playstyle, like a 24/7 server for your best map and mode, to consistently earn XP through skillful play. That feels like a fair way to accelerate progress. However, a different trend has emerged: a clear rush to the top in Battlefield 6 using Portal experiences explicitly designed for pure XP farming, rather than genuine gameplay.
While replicating iconic maps like Call of Duty’s Shipment showcases Portal’s creative potential, it’s telling that multiple versions of this map now dominate the server browser. These aren’t just creative homages; they’ve quickly become notorious farming servers.
The developers at Battlefield Studios deserve credit for their swift action against the most blatant XP farms. Yet, it’s hard not to wonder if a slightly faster progression rate in standard game modes would significantly reduce the proliferation of these exploitative Portal servers in the first place.
While some players undoubtedly appreciate these servers for their rapid access to superior attachments and weapons, a growing number are expressing frustration. A recent post on the Battlefield subreddit humorously highlighted the widespread issue of these spammy XP farms.
Portal mode itself is fantastic. I genuinely enjoy the variety it offers, from jet training courses to persistent Firestorm servers and intense hardcore lobbies. My hope is for it to remain a hub of creativity and community, as it has been in past titles, rather than becoming a breeding ground for exploits. While Battlefield Studios can continue to remove problematic servers as they appear, a more proactive solution – boosting standard XP gain – would likely diminish the incentive for players to seek out these farming opportunities entirely.
Although I don’t expect a full arsenal of top-tier weapons after only six hours, I certainly anticipated reaching a higher rank and having more loadout options at my disposal. For players who prefer to earn their progression honestly, we offer helpful guides on leveling up quickly and identifying the best weapons in Battlefield 6 to craft powerful loadouts.
