Battlefield 6 has undoubtedly hit the ground running, with its recent domination of the Steam charts painting a clear picture of its success. Throughout its launch weekend, EA’s latest multiplayer shooter attracted an incredible number of concurrent players, regularly soaring past 740,000. Even days after release, the game has impressively maintained a substantial player base, rarely dipping below 200,000 active players at any given moment.
On Steam specifically, Battlefield 6 now holds the record for the most concurrent players ever seen in the franchise. It consistently ranked among Steam’s most played games all weekend and proudly sits as the number one top-seller, a remarkable feat considering the base game’s $70 price tag. This surge of momentum strongly suggests that Battlefield 6 is the series’ first genuine breakout hit in a considerable period.
Game developer David Sirland, known as “@tiggr_” on X (formerly Twitter), shared his enthusiasm on October 12, 2025, stating, “I think this Sunday will be good in terms of how many of you all are playing BF6! New record? I hope so!”
Despite its incredible launch-weekend momentum, even a holiday weekend couldn’t push Battlefield 6 past its initial peak of over 747,000 players, achieved right at its October 10 release. Nevertheless, these early Steam figures are significant enough to surpass Call of Duty’s all-time high on the platform, which currently stands at approximately 492,000, and outshine other major shooters like Apex Legends and Helldivers 2.
Battlefield 6’s exceptional start wasn’t entirely unexpected. A series of leaks from the Battlefield Labs program, where selected players offered valuable feedback during early testing, had already generated considerable excitement. This anticipation reached a fever pitch during the game’s full reveal earlier in the summer, with developers at Battlefield Studios hinting at returning to the successful formulas of Battlefield 3 and 4 – widely considered the franchise’s peak – and adopting a back-to-basics approach after Battlefield 2042’s challenging launch.
An open beta in August further fueled the fervor for Battlefield 6, attracting over 500,000 players on Steam alone and convincing many that the franchise was back in top form after a string of less successful entries. A review in progress for the game echoed this sentiment, describing it as “a return to form for the long-running series, delivering chaotic, large-scale multiplayer that’s as familiar as it is uproariously fun.”
The big question now is whether Battlefield 6 can sustain this positive momentum and widespread enthusiasm as rival titles, such as Black Ops 7, draw nearer to their release dates.
