Battlefield 6’s highly anticipated battle royale mode might unexpectedly launch as early as next week. This exciting possibility comes from recent datamining discoveries and reliable insider sources.
According to Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, the battle royale mode is expected to be a surprise release on October 28. Dataminers have reportedly found references to something codenamed “Granite” within the game’s files, which Modern Warzone suggests is this new battle royale experience, also pointing to the October 28 shadowdrop date.
While Battlefield Studios has confirmed the development of a battle royale mode, details like its monetization (free-to-play or paid) remain under wraps. A surprise launch wouldn’t be unprecedented for a battle royale title, as EA famously dropped Apex Legends without extensive pre-release marketing in February 2019.
EA previously ventured into the battle royale genre with Battlefield V’s Firestorm mode in 2019, but it failed to gain significant traction. The upcoming Battlefield 6 battle royale will face stiff competition from established giants like Fortnite, PUBG, and Call of Duty: Warzone.
EA has been actively testing Battlefield 6’s battle royale mode with the Battlefield Labs community. The developers recently shared a preview of some upcoming adjustments for the mode, which include:
- Close-range Time-To-Kill (TTK): Adjustments have been made to close-range TTK across all weapons to emphasize skillful positioning and aiming, while also providing players with more opportunities to react to attacks. This will be continuously monitored after launch.
- Armor System Enhancements: All players will now begin matches with the capacity for two armor plates and will spawn with one plate already equipped. This ensures that everyone has an immediate chance to upgrade their protection as they find loot, promoting fairer gameplay.
- Environmental Refinements: Persistent world bugs have been addressed, and various areas have been optimized to enhance the overall environment. These improvements include lighting adjustments and better visibility across the map.
- Vehicle Rebalancing: Helicopters and other combat vehicles have received balance tweaks. The goal is to maintain their powerful role, consistent with Battlefield’s core identity, without making them essential for late-game survival or victory. This also involves notable changes to helicopter countermeasures and ammunition availability.
Coinciding with the rumored battle royale launch, October 28 will also see the arrival of Battlefield 6’s Season 1, introducing fresh maps and modes to the multiplayer experience.
Battlefield 6 had a strong launch on October 10, quickly selling 7 million copies and marking the series’ most successful opening ever.
