Just last week, Battlefield 6 exploded onto the scene with impressive player numbers. However, EA’s latest installment in the popular first-person shooter series is already grappling with a frustrating issue: players are reporting that their bullets seem to fly right through enemies without registering hits.
Gamers across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S jumped into Battlefield 6 shortly after its October 10th launch. While many found the initial build surprisingly solid compared to some of the franchise’s notoriously rocky past releases, it hasn’t been entirely smooth sailing. A particularly bothersome bug appears to be messing with hit registration for certain weapons.
A few key clips highlighting this problem have quickly risen to prominence in online discussions, with each one prompting more players to share their own similar, frustrating experiences. One Reddit user, KaiKamakasi, was among the first to voice concerns, posting a clip from Battlefield 6’s New Sobek City map. The video clearly shows them unloading over 20 bullets directly into an enemy, only for absolutely no damage to register.
KaiKamakasi humorously suggested that their rifle must have been filled with blanks, but the footage serves as undeniable proof that something deeply wrong is happening in Battlefield 6. Every shot appears perfectly aimed at the enemy, with visual blood splatters confirming contact. Yet, inexplicably, the opponent remained unfazed and then easily eliminated KaiKamakasi.
Another player commented, “I had this today as well. You can even hear it when the bullets hit a body so you know you are hitting them. I was playing with a mate and asking him if classes have different armor that I’d never seen because some people just appeared to be bullet sponges.”
They concluded, “I knew I was clearly hitting them and they just wouldn’t go down.”
Similarly, user cjoux provided a more granular look at the problem. Their video featured a zoomed-in, slow-motion replay of a close-range gunfight, with each bullet counted. While hit markers did appear, suggesting successful registration, only a fraction of the nine shots aimed directly at the target actually landed. Our team at IGN has also encountered these baffling “phantom bullets” that simply pass through opponents.
A relieved player responded to cjoux’s clip, exclaiming, “So I’m not crazy? I’ve BEAMED people with a controller. I could literally see that I was on point with my reticle and still lose the engagement somehow. Always one or two bullets just MISS somehow when my gun felt like it shot more than enough to kill someone.”
They speculated, “It’s either hit registration or I’m not used to the spread and weapon balance in this game.”
Fortunately, EA has acknowledged the issue and is actively investigating. Florian Le Bihan, a Principal Game Designer on Battlefield 6, confirmed that BF Studios is looking into the problem. He explained that “It is commonly observed with the target being visibly hit (blood splatters) but no damage is confirmed in the HUD (no hit indicator etc…).”
