The highly anticipated game, Battlefield 6, has officially launched, and within moments, its servers were completely flooded by hundreds of thousands of eager players.
We at IGN experienced these queues firsthand today, October 10th, as the team at Battlefield Studios prepared for the massive influx of players.
Less than an hour after going live, Battlefield 6 had already amassed an astonishing 606,000 concurrent players on Steam alone. The actual total number of players across all platforms, including Xbox and PlayStation, is undoubtedly much higher, though those console figures remain private.
Electronic Arts had previously released a statement indicating they expected a high volume of players at launch and had implemented a queue system to manage this anticipated “peak moment.”
Their statement read: “A brief update on login queues as we prepare for the launch of Battlefield 6 later today. Battlefield 6 goes live today at 15:00 UTC, and we anticipate many of you will log in simultaneously during this initial period. To ensure a smooth and stable login experience for everyone, we’ve implemented a queue system for this and other high-demand times. Thank you for your patience as we launch Battlefield 6!”
In a subsequent announcement, EA reassured players that they were admitting as many as possible, expecting queues to be “relatively short.” They advised: “With the game now live, many of you are jumping in at the same time. To help keep things smooth and stable for everyone, login queues are active during this peak launch moment. We’re letting as many of you in as we can, so queues should be relatively short. Steam users, please note that if the ‘Play’ button doesn’t appear, restarting the Steam client should fix the issue. Thanks for your patience, and enjoy the launch of Battlefield 6!”
These extensive launch queues come after a Battlefield 6 developer previously stated that the game’s servers “should” be prepared for release day, and that the recent open beta was instrumental in “gauging player interest.” While waiting to jump into the action, explore our ongoing Battlefield 6 multiplayer review, our comprehensive Battlefield 6 campaign review, and details on what’s coming in Battlefield Season 1.
