The introduction of a new Battlefield 6 Casual Breakthrough mode marks Battlefield Studios’ ongoing effort to cater to players seeking a less intense experience, while simultaneously addressing the issue of XP farming. This innovative mode blends player-versus-player combat with AI opponents, allowing players to complete challenges and earn experience at rates adjusted for the type of enemy encountered.
“We understand that sometimes you want to jump into Battlefield but without the intensity of a full PvP lobby,” the Battlefield 6 developers explained. This has been a hot topic, especially after the team recently tightened its rules against BF6 XP farming by reducing experience gains in unverified Portal experiences that relied on bot backfill. The new Casual Breakthrough mode, accessible now from the multiplayer tab, serves as a compromise for players who prefer a more relaxed approach.

Frustrating challenges have led many to search for strategies or specific Portal options to ease the burden. However, this new mode offers a welcome alternative: “a more relaxed way to play while still earning progression and completing challenges.”
In Casual Breakthrough, teams consist of 24 players each, split into eight human players and 16 AI bots. Players can earn Career XP, Weapon XP, and Battle Pass XP, as well as complete challenges. Full experience rewards are given for actions against real opponents, while actions against AI-controlled enemies yield reduced rates.

Currently, the mode is available on two specific Battlefield 6 maps: Siege of Cairo and Empire State. It’s worth noting that dogtags, accolades, and career stat upgrades are not offered in this mode. Battlefield Studios is actively seeking player feedback, stating, “We’ll be monitoring your feedback to determine if further adjustments are needed in the future.”
In related news, the developers have also implemented “temporary adjustments to XP” in the Strikepoint mode. This measure was taken to ensure “fair and consistent progression” while they investigate an exploit that allowed for exceptionally fast experience gains.

Personally, I’m curious to see how well it plays out; I always appreciated the AI grunts in Titanfall 2, but I’m unsure if a similar bot-heavy approach will fully deliver when they’re expected to be core team members.
