Get ready to put one foot in front of the other, literally, with Devolver Digital’s quirky walking simulator, Baby Steps, now officially verified for the Steam Deck! This means you can embark on Nate’s unusual journey from practically anywhere.
In Baby Steps, players guide Nate, an unemployed character who inexplicably gains the ability to walk and then sets out to find purpose in his life. Devolver Digital playfully suggests you can now help Nate conquer virtual mountains while perched on a real one yourself!
The official Baby Steps Twitter account recently announced the Steam Deck verification, highlighting that players can now enjoy Nate’s adventure from a park, a bus stop, or even a coffee shop restroom, emphasizing the endless portability of the game.
Adding to the game’s unique charm, a recent ESRB rating for Baby Steps revealed a “mystical realm full of quirky and bizarre characters,” including some “human/donkey hybrids with exposed male genitalia.” While this makes for an interesting in-game experience, rest assured, you shouldn’t encounter such sights on your real-world Steam Deck walks. If you do, calling the authorities and making a swift exit is highly recommended!
Interestingly, Baby Steps‘ release was previously delayed to avoid clashing with Hollow Knight: Silksong. The developers—Bennett Foddy (known for Getting Over It), Gabe Cuzzillo (Ape Out), and Maxi Boch (also Ape Out)—even created a humorous trailer showing Nate scaling a statue of Hornet, the protagonist of Silksong, to announce the change.
Mark your calendars: Baby Steps is scheduled to launch on September 23 for both PC and PlayStation 5.
