The iconic Intellivision brand is making a surprising return to the gaming world, spearheaded by its historical competitor, Atari. Introducing the Intellivision Sprint, a brand-new console designed to celebrate the legacy of the original Atari 2600 rival. This exciting system comes pre-loaded with an impressive collection of 45 classic games and is now available for preorder, with its official launch scheduled for December 5th, priced at $150.
According to a press release from Atari, the Intellivision Sprint was developed through a partnership with Plaion. The console features two wireless controllers and includes a USB-A port, allowing for potential expansion of its game library. Among the titles already installed on the system are beloved classics such as fan favorites like Baseball, Soccer, Astrosmash, Boulder Dash, and Sea Battle. Each game also comes with dedicated controller overlays, promising an authentic retro gaming experience.

Matt Burett, Atari’s VP of strategic operations, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “We’re thrilled to celebrate Intellivision’s 45th anniversary, and what better way to honor it than by bringing back this innovative console for fans to experience once again? Becoming caretakers of such an important brand is both a big responsibility and a very fun expansion of our work at Atari.”
This venture comes after Atari acquired the Intellivision brand and a significant portion of its game catalog in May 2024. Notably, this isn’t the first attempt at an Intellivision revival; the Intellivision Amico console was previously planned but remains unreleased and will now proceed without the Intellivision name.
Atari has been active in the retro console market, having launched the Atari 2600+ in late 2023, an updated version of the vintage system with modern features like widescreen support. In the same year, the company also acquired developer Digital Eclipse, which is known for its work on projects like the Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection.
