Assam Rifles successfully apprehended two members of a Myanmar-based armed group in Manipur’s Chandel district on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, according to a statement released by the paramilitary force.
The arrests took place on October 18 in the Sajik Tampak area, a region strategically located near the India-Myanmar border. Both individuals were identified as active members of the United Tribal Volunteers Group.
This targeted operation, launched based on precise intelligence, successfully disrupted an attempted cross-border militant movement. Following their apprehension, the individuals were transferred to Chakpikarong Police for thorough investigation.
These arrests occur against a backdrop of severe ethnic violence in Manipur, which has tragically afflicted Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities since May 2023. The ongoing unrest has claimed over 260 lives and displaced thousands from their homes.
