Following the exciting launch of the iPhone 17 series on September 9th, all attention is now turning to Apple’s anticipated October event, traditionally a showcase for its latest MacBook lineup. However, whispers suggest that the tech giant might be grappling with supply-chain hurdles, potentially leading to a delayed reveal. According to a well-informed journalist, the new M5-powered MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models are reportedly set to begin mass production very soon. In parallel, Apple is also said to be preparing the debut of new external monitors.
Apple’s Next-Gen M5 MacBooks and External Monitors on the Horizon
With the iPhone 17 now in the spotlight, Apple’s focus is reportedly shifting to its other innovative products. In his most recent Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman shared insights into Apple’s upcoming device plans. The company is believed to be gearing up for the introduction of several new models. Gurman indicates that the new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, equipped with the powerful M5 chipset, could enter mass production imminently.
The MacBook Pro line is expected to include two models, known internally as J714 and J716, while the MacBook Air is also predicted to arrive in J813 and J815 variations. Interestingly, beyond the enhanced M5 chipset, significant feature upgrades are not expected for these models. Apple seems to be saving its more substantial redesigns and innovations for its future M6-powered MacBook generation.
While Apple typically unveils its MacBooks in October, potential supply-chain challenges might push the launch of the M5-powered MacBooks to early next year. This wouldn’t be unprecedented; for example, the M2 Pro and M2 Max-powered MacBook Pro models were introduced in January 2023.
Furthermore, Apple is reportedly planning to roll out two new Mac monitors, identified by the codenames J427 and J527. These monitors are expected to follow a similar launch schedule as the new MacBooks, making their appearance between late this year and early 2026.
Adding to the excitement, the iPad Pro is rumored to receive an M5 chipset upgrade and could be among the first devices showcased at Apple’s upcoming ‘Awe Dropping’ event. This October event is also anticipated to feature the reveal of the next-generation iPad Pro with its new chip and a redesigned portrait-facing selfie camera, possibly alongside an AirTag 2 announcement and an updated successor to the Apple Vision Pro.
