Apple Developing Secret ChatGPT-Style App to Supercharge Next-Gen Siri

September 27, 2025

Reading Time: 3 min

Apple is reportedly developing an advanced, ChatGPT-like application to rigorously test and prepare for a major overhaul of its intelligent assistant, Siri. This internal tool, codenamed “Veritas,” is designed to fine-tune the artificial intelligence capabilities of the next-generation Siri. Engineers are using Veritas to identify and resolve potential issues, ensuring a smooth and powerful launch slated for next year. This strategic internal development allows Apple’s AI division to simulate diverse real-world conversations, perfecting Siri’s performance before its public release.

Internal Testing of Next-Generation Siri with “Veritas”

According to a recent report, this new application, internally known as “Veritas” (Latin for “truth”), is strictly for Apple’s internal use and will not be released to the public. Its primary purpose is to empower Apple’s AI team to more effectively and thoroughly test the enhancements coming to Siri.

The Veritas application functions similarly to many popular chatbots, allowing users to engage in multi-turn conversations and follow up on previous inquiries. Apple engineers are actively utilizing feedback from these extensive tests to continuously refine Siri’s prompt understanding, improve its response generation, and enhance its ability to handle errors gracefully.

Specifically, Veritas is being used to test the revamped core system, codenamed “Linwood,” which is poised to power the new Siri. This advanced software heavily leverages large language models (LLMs) and integrates development from both Apple’s internal Foundation Models team and an external third-party AI model.

Siri’s Major Upgrade Anticipated in Early 2026

The Cupertino-based tech giant aims to launch a significantly upgraded version of Siri by March 2026, following several delays. While initially expected to debut with iOS 18, the next-generation Siri encountered development challenges, pushing back its release.

Beyond the core AI improvements, Apple is also expected to introduce a visual redesign for its personal voice assistant by the end of next year. Furthermore, the company is reportedly developing a suite of AI-powered smart home devices, integrating new AI capabilities into its current product offerings, and enhancing its web search functionalities with more artificial intelligence.

Apple finds itself in a challenging position in the competitive AI landscape, currently trailing rivals like Google and Samsung. In a bid to accelerate its AI offerings, the company has actively explored various avenues. This includes discussions with OpenAI, advanced negotiations with Anthropic concerning their Claude model, and intensified talks with Google regarding the potential use of a customized version of Gemini on Apple devices.
