Apex Legends Season 27, dubbed “Amped,” is just around the corner, bringing a whirlwind of changes that players are eagerly anticipating. As the new season approaches, many are racing to complete their current battle pass and climb the ranked ladder one last time. Respawn Entertainment, known for its dynamic updates to one of the most popular battle royale games, is introducing significant shifts. This article focuses on the game-changing ranked experience. With adjustments to loot distribution, a re-evaluation of Kill Points (KP), and a highly requested feature for solo players, Season 27’s ranked mode is poised to be the most balanced and enjoyable in a long time.
A significant concern among players has been the inconsistent loot distribution since the introduction of drop zones, replacing the traditional dropship. Landing in an area with sparse or low-quality loot often put players at an immediate disadvantage. Fortunately, Season 27 aims to rectify this. According to Clement Bachellerie, Apex Legends’ lead ranked designer, “Players felt that the game was a bit unfair when they were dropping on a POI that has less loot or less quality loot than another POI.” While the total number of items on the map remains the same, Respawn has “reduced the spike between different POIs in order to be a bit more fair,” promising a more equitable early-game experience.
Furthermore, players can look forward to improved Ranked Point acquisition. Season 26 heavily prioritized placement, leading to often stagnant mid-game phases where teams focused more on positioning than engaging in combat. Bachellerie acknowledges this feedback, stating, “Placement was a bit too strong and players were feeling that kills were not valued enough.” In response, Respawn has rebalanced Kill Points (KP) earned from placement. This isn’t a complete return to Season 25’s system but rather a refined approach that aims to strike a better balance between the strategic importance of placement and the thrill of aggressive gameplay.
These changes are expected to foster more aggressive and dynamic gameplay in Season 27. Crucially, solo players will also receive a long-awaited quality-of-life upgrade. For those who frequently queue alone, the ability to instantly re-queue as a team with newfound squadmates after a successful match is a game-changer. Previously, connecting with a good solo-queue teammate required exiting ranked, sending friend requests, forming a party, and then re-entering the queue—a cumbersome process. Now, a single button press streamlines this, a “pretty standard feature” that Bachellerie is pleased to finally bring to enhance the solo queue experience.
As the global Apex Legends community eagerly awaits the full Season 27 patch notes, expected later today, these initial ranked changes promise a significantly smoother and more engaging experience compared to the previous season, which already had its merits. Apex Legends Season 27 is set to launch on Tuesday, November 4. In the meantime, players can explore other top-tier titles or browse other gaming lists.
