Punjabi singer AP Dhillon has gained significant recognition for his hit songs like ‘Brown Munde,’ ‘Excuses,’ ‘With You,’ and ‘Dil Nu.’ In a recent podcast appearance on the YouTube channel SMTV, Dhillon shared his reasons for not venturing into Bollywood music. He expressed that his primary concern is for his community and setting a positive example for aspiring artists.
Dhillon stated that while he is open to collaborating with Bollywood, he insists that the industry must first address its business practices, which he believes often lead to the exploitation of artists and their music for profit. He revealed that several prominent actors had approached him for film songs, but their demand to own the rights to the music, including remix rights, was a deal-breaker for him.
“That’s not correct,” Dhillon commented on the practice. He further elaborated that if he were to accept such terms, it would set a precedent for younger and less established artists to face similar exploitation, potentially losing income from their own successful songs. He feels it’s crucial for prominent Punjabi artists to draw a line to foster positive change within the industry.
While many Punjabi artists like Diljit Dosanjh, Karan Aujla, Honey Singh, and Badshah have successfully contributed to Bollywood soundtracks, AP Dhillon has maintained a stance against lending his voice to the industry under the current conditions. He recently released a track titled ‘Thodi Si Daaru,’ featuring Shreya Ghoshal and Tara Sutaria.
In other news, AP Dhillon is set to embark on his ‘One of One India Tour.’ The tour is scheduled to commence on December 5th in Ahmedabad and will cover eight cities, including Delhi, Ludhiana, Pune, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai, and conclude in Jaipur on December 28th.
