Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield has issued a strikingly clear response concerning his potential return in next year’s highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday.
In a recent interview, Garfield was directly asked if he or fellow Spider-Man veteran Tobey Maguire would reunite with current Spider-Man actor Tom Holland in Avengers: Doomsday, following their memorable team-up in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Despite his history of playfully misleading fans, Garfield’s answer this time was undeniably firm: “No, unequivocally f***ing no,” the actor declared. While this might seem like a definitive end to speculation, fans know Garfield has a flair for the dramatic when it comes to Marvel secrets.
However, when the conversation shifted to the subsequent film, Avengers: Secret Wars, Garfield’s response became notably more ambiguous.
“See, what it is, is this a tell? Or what is it? You’ll find out!” Garfield said when pressed about his potential involvement in Secret Wars this week. “Whatever response I’m having, is it exasperation? Is it? I don’t know. You’ll find out.”
With Avengers: Doomsday just over a year away and principal photography already complete, its massive ensemble cast is set to include original Avengers, New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, with Robert Downey Jr. reportedly appearing as Doctor Doom. Despite this, there’s been no indication that Garfield’s Spider-Man, or even Tom Holland’s iteration (who has his own film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, due next year), would feature in this particular installment.

Yet, Avengers: Secret Wars presents a different scenario. As the epic conclusion to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga, a storyline in which Garfield has already played a significant role, it seems like a prime opportunity for him to return for a grand finale as Marvel potentially reboots its multiverse.
This possibility appears far more likely than a third standalone Amazing Spider-Man film. Regarding that long-wished-for sequel, Garfield previously commented, “It’s not happening and I don’t believe it ever will, but it’s sweet of you to want it to happen.”
As confirmed by Garfield himself, Avengers: Doomsday will premiere on December 18, 2026, without his involvement.
