Following the phenomenal success of the 2006 film ‘Vivah’, Amrita Rao became a beloved household name, celebrated for her portrayal of simplicity and innocence. However, behind the cinematic portrayal, Amrita’s reality was far from a fairytale. She found herself navigating a complex period marked by an influx of marriage proposals, intense fan behavior, and a career plateau that left her feeling creatively stifled and emotionally isolated.
Amrita opens up about her post-‘Vivah’ success experiences
In a candid conversation, Amrita shared the extraordinary attention she received after ‘Vivah’s’ overwhelming success. She recounted receiving numerous proposals from Non-Resident Indians, often accompanied by family photos and glimpses of their material possessions, with simple requests to marry them. Some fans even resorted to writing letters, one particularly disturbing instance involving a letter written in blood, which deeply unsettled her. The situation escalated to a point where a persistent fan would wait outside her home, requiring her parents to manage phone calls, creating a sense of unease.
Beyond the external attention, Amrita revealed an internal struggle. Despite a string of successful films and audience adoration, she felt professionally stagnant. She expressed frustration with the type of roles offered, often contingent on scenes she wasn’t comfortable with, like kissing scenes. Coupled with discouraging comments from industry peers, Amrita found herself withdrawing from the social circuit, preferring to focus on her work and retreat home, leading to a period of intense loneliness.
It was during this challenging phase that she met RJ Anmol, who would later become her husband. Their relationship provided a much-needed anchor, helping her navigate the emotional and professional turmoil. After a seven-year courtship, Amrita and Anmol exchanged vows on May 15, 2016. They later welcomed their son, Veer, in November 2020.
